Woody River has a First Class BA (Hons) in English Literature with Creative Writing, and a MA in Creative Writing with English Literature, for which she was awarded a Distinction.

She has considerable experience in tutoring and course design having worked within secondary education, further education, higher education, lifelong learning and in a rehabilitation centre for people with drug and alcohol problems. Her work has taken her into both public and voluntary sector organisations, introducing her to a wide variety of people. This has enabled her to develop excellent classroom management skills and a strong personal approach which encourages learners to feel confident participating in group discussions.

In addition to tutoring literature, Woody has worked as an academic writing tutor, an EFL tutor, and provided equality and diversity tutorials about different faiths and cultures. She has also delivered lectures for U3A groups and Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI).

As a freelance writer, Woody has written articles for various newspapers and magazines. She was the editor for the book Poetic Meter and Form, published in 2015 by Wooden Books, an imprint of Bloomsbury, and she also works as an academic copy-editor, working on titles published by Routledge Taylor and Francis.

Woody currently designs and delivers literature courses for WEA, Dillington House, Bristol Adult Learning Service, City of Bath College, Frome Community Education, Clevedon Adult Study Association, The Museum of East Asian Art and Coleridge Cottage, as well as running a number of private courses.

Since 2013 Woody has sat on the Programme sub Committee at Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution as First World War convenor and co-convenor for Poetry. Within these capacities, she has organised a three day symposium, an exhibition, and has helped to
arrange and facilitate the monthly poetry meetings.
